In Bond” wines are held in secure, government-approved warehouses in Europe. The prices you see exclude European taxes, which never apply when wines are exported to the United States. Shipments must move through licensed transporters, but for you that simply means the bottles are released tax-free and shipped directly to the U.S.

“Duty Paid” wines have already cleared European customs, with EU taxes settled. This means the bottles can move freely within Europe, but unlike “In Bond” stock, they’re no longer eligible for tax-free export. When shipping to the U.S., these wines are treated as fully released goods, not under bonded storage.

Duty

Within the European Union, duty (excise tax) on wine and spirits is charged when goods are released for consumption. The amount depends on the alcohol content and the rates set by each member state.

VAT (Value Added Tax)

For wines that are “Duty Paid” (no longer in bond), VAT is added at the local rate of the delivery country. This tax only applies within the EU and is not charged on exports to the United States.

Home deliveries to private customers are charged at our standard rates (see Shipping Information). A complete delivery address is required.

Transfers to Bonded Warehouses

If you prefer to keep wines under bond, please provide full details of the receiving warehouse: name and address, your account number, sub-account number, and any relevant references. This ensures smooth, customs-approved transfer.

Storage fees are based on the number of units (cases or bottles) you hold in our bonded warehouses. The rate is charged monthly and includes climate-controlled storage, insurance, and full traceability of your portfolio. For new purchases through Rue Pinard, the settlement fee already covers the first three months of storage.

Taxes only apply when you remove your wine from bonded storage and release it into general circulation. While bottles remain in bond, no VAT or import duties are charged—making this the most efficient way to hold investment-grade wine. If you choose to sell directly from bond, the transaction remains duty-free.

Once your collection is secured in our bonded storage, bringing it to market is seamless. With a single instruction, your bottles are listed on Liv-ex, Wine-Searcher, and Cru—instantly visible to discerning buyers across Europe, Asia, and the U.S. You set the price; we handle execution, settlement, and delivery with discretion. Sales commissions range between 5–10%.

Yes. You’ll gain access to an online dashboard with real-time valuations (via Liv-Ex), recommendations, performance analysis, and downloadable monthly reports.

In-bond prices exclude local duties and VAT. When wines are released for export, additional costs apply: removal and handling fees, export documentation, international shipping, and the applicable import duties or taxes in your country.
