This specific 1792 vintage has a notable connection with historical events, particularly with Napoleon. According to Michael Broadbent this Madeira was originally taken on board HMS Northumberland when the ship provisioned at Funchal, Madeira, en route to St. Helena with Napoleon following his defeat at Waterloo. Napoleon never got to drink it. It was later sold to and bottled by Blandy's in 1840. Later this batch started the Solera that yielded this bottle. This historical backdrop not only adds to the allure of the wine but also increases its value as a collectible.
